Tik Tok is a social media platform aimed at younger users. The average Tik Tok user is between 18-34 – certainly old enough to drive, but apparently not old enough to exercise common sense behind the wheel. A recent example is the Tik Tok challenge called the Cha Cha Slide, which encourages participants to drive their cars in a dangerous swooping pattern in time with a song of the same name.
Numerous deaths have been attributed to the Cha Cha Slide Tik Tok challenge. Enthusiasm for this challenge seems to have tapered off somewhat since the death of DJ Casper, the musical artist behind the song. However, it’s reasonable to expect new and potentially more dangerous challenges to arise and cause problems on the road.
How to Protect Yourself Against Reckless Drivers
As an auto body repair shop, we can tell you that vehicles that have been in accidents caused by reckless drivers tend to have the most severe damage. This is because reckless driving behavior can lead to accidents that involve high speed and unusual impacts.
To protect yourself against reckless drivers, consider taking a defensive driving course. If you’ve taken defensive driving before, but it’s been more than five to ten years, consider taking a refresher course. Defensive driving teaches the awareness and response skills vital to staying safe on a road full of reckless and distracted drivers.
What Should You Do If You’ve Been Hit By a Reckless Driver
Obviously, being on the wrong end of the Cha Cha slide or other TikTok driving challenge is upsetting. A top concern will be what to do with your damaged car. You have the choice to have the car towed to any garage of your choosing – it is not up to the party who hit you, law enforcement, your insurance company or anyone else. Have them bring your car to the collision repair center with the best local reputation.
