As an auto body and repair shop near Bridgewater, we have heard everything there is to hear about Massachusetts drivers. Some people say we’re the worst drivers in the country, hands down. A lot of car accidents do happen in the Greater Boston area, it’s true – but a look at the auto insurance industry data reveals that Massachusetts is not the most dangerous state to drive in.
In fact, we’re not even in the top 3 most dangerous states to drive in. Massachusetts is not in the top 5 most dangerous states to drive in. We’re not in the top 10 either.
Who does top the list? Ohio, followed by Washington, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Colorado, North Dakota, Iowa, Idaho, Indiana, and Mississippi. The least dangerous state to drive is New Jersey, which surprised us as well. Factors that went into determining how dangerous a state is include the percentage of drivers who are on the road without insurance, the percentage of drivers who’d already been in at least one at-fault accident, and the percentage of people who have been convicted of DUI or DWI. Other factors, such as inclement weather conditions and the absence of anti-distracted driving laws were also considered.
What Types of Car Accidents Are Most Common in Massachusetts?
While Massachusetts may not be the most dangerous state to drive in, as a Bridgewater auto body repair shop, we can assure you that there are still numerous car accidents every year. In fact Massachusetts has one of the highest percentages of drivers who have been in at least one at-fault accident – 11.9%. However, the vast majority of these accidents are not fatal or causing serious injury.
The most common type of car accident in Massachusetts is a rear-end collision. Next on the list are car-deer collisions, and then the list varies to include various other types of fender benders and low-speed collisions.
