“You know how during COVID we had to do all of our holiday parties over the computer?” Greg asked. “Well, at the time I hated that. But now I have to admit at least no one hit my car at the virtual party!”
Greg belongs to a very large family. At the recent holiday party, parking was tight. There were cars in the drive way, cars on the lawn, and cars on the street. Greg’s niece Mandy isn’t old enough to drive, but her boyfriend is, so he brought her to the party. When he was trying to parallel park, he wound up hitting Greg’s car.
“It’s really minor damage,” Greg said. “A small fender bender. I could report it to insurance, but this kid is literally not even out of high school yet. He was so upset. I told him, don’t worry about it. It’s Christmas. Next time park further up the street. You’re young, you can walk a little bit.”
“Now of course I need to get my car fixed,” Greg explained. “The car was drivable – just scratches and dents, really – but I don’t like to let things go. So I looked for the best local auto body shop that could help me fairly quickly.”
“Because I was paying out of pocket, I asked for an estimate first. The price was reasonable – enough that I would have felt bad asking a teenager to pay for it, but not so much that I would have had to ask his parents, you know? And I feel like that’s a good price for family harmony and holiday happiness.”
